Growing up in the Bay Area, Philip Vourvoulis developed his artistic talent at an early age. After high school, he attended the California College of Arts in Oakland, and started working as a painter, potter and print maker, eventually branching out into glass. The bread and butter of his professional career became architectural glass, working with architects, artists and glass fabricators, developing new methods and techniques of art glass fabrication.
In recent years Philip has increasingly focused his attention again on his personal creative work, utilizing a wide range of materials and techniques to create sculptures, paintings and collages. With a keen eye for detail, a masterful ability to draw and a vivid imagination, he creates both realistic and abstract pieces. Drawing from his expertise in commercial fabrication, he utilizes a wide range of materials, including glass, wood, colored film and various types of paint. His art is inspired by the natural life outside his doorsteps, as well as by current social and political events.
